Children's Privacy (COPPA)

How we protect your child's data and privacy on Study Junior.

Last updated: March 2026

Our Commitment to Children's Privacy

Study Junior is designed for learners of all ages, including children under 13. We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012. We believe children deserve the highest level of privacy protection.

Parental Consent

A parent or legal guardian must create the Study Junior account. By creating an account and adding a student profile for a child under 13, the parent provides verifiable consent for the collection and use of the child's information as described in this policy. Parents can review, modify, or delete their child's information at any time.

Information We Collect from Children

We collect only what is necessary to provide the learning service: the child's first name (or nickname), grade level, and learning activity data (lessons completed, scores, time spent). We do not collect home addresses, phone numbers, social media accounts, or any other personal identifiers directly from children.

How We Use Children's Information

Children's information is used exclusively to personalise their learning experience, track progress, and generate reports for parents. We use aggregate, anonymised data to improve our lessons and game engines. We never use children's data for marketing or advertising purposes.

What We Never Do

We never display advertisements to children. We never sell, rent, or share children's personal information with third parties. We never allow children to make their profiles public. We never contact children directly. We never use children's data for purposes unrelated to the educational service.

Data Security for Children

Children's data receives the same robust security protections as all user data: encryption in transit and at rest, strict access controls, and regular security audits. Offline data stored on devices is encrypted. We limit internal access to children's data to employees who need it to provide the service.

Parental Rights

Parents have the right to: review all information collected about their child, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion of their child's data, refuse further collection of their child's data (which may require closing the student profile), and receive a copy of their child's learning progress data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].

Data Retention

We retain children's data only for as long as the account is active and the student profile exists. When a parent deletes a student profile or closes their account, all associated children's data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated statistics that cannot identify any individual child may be retained.

Third-Party Services

We use a minimal set of third-party services (payment processing, hosting infrastructure) that may process data on our behalf. All third-party processors are contractually required to protect children's data at least as rigorously as we do and may not use the data for any other purpose.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to how we handle children's data, we will notify parents via email at least 30 days before the changes take effect and request renewed consent where required by law.
